about

This is one song from a larger project by The Soviet Influence. It seemed timely to release it now as part of our ongoing efforts to be a politically active band. It quotes Eugene Debs who was a famous American socialist, and utilizes the popular chant "the people united will never be defeated."

lyrics

Your parents were punks what happened to you?
It's not 1969 anymore
It's not 1978 anymore
We can't make excuses anymore
My world's on fire, how's yours?
I fall down
Those goddamn yuppies got their way

And here we go
We walk to the edge
We look out over the fires of the earth
And this is not
The real end
So here we go, here we go, here we go
Come on!

We've been exploited
That hasn't changed
And what we aim for
Is to make our ancestors feel ashamed

And here we go
We walk to the edge
We look out over the fires of the earth
And this is not
The real end
So here we go, here we go, here we go
Come on!

Patriotism is the last refuge of the scoundrel. In every age there's been the tyrant, the oppressor or the exploiter who has wrapped himself in the cloak of patriotism, or religion, or both (Eugene Debs)

The people united will never be defeated!
